About the business
Castle Stone is a well established Tasmanian business that cuts and supplies sandstone sourced from its quarry in Buckland on the East Coast of Tasmania. The business was established in 2014 and has been rapidly growing since. Castle Stone began as a sandstone provider to the local community but recent expansion has allowed for exportation of sandstone to companies located both within and outside of Australia.
Principles
As a growing business Castle Stone attempts to conduct its work in an environmentally friendly manner. The handling of sandstone does require the use of large scale machinery but Castle Stone ensures that all practices comply with relevant environmental standards and regulations.
Community
Despite its target to be a nationally recognised sandstone provider Castle Stone also remains focused on giving back to its local community. Castle Stone has sponsored the local football club, donated sandstone to the local RSL, and has provided job opportunities to people within the community.

About the sandstone
Sandstone is a sedimentary rock composed mainly of rock grains or sand-sized minerals. Sandstone is soft enough to carve and use for multiple purposes, yet is still a solid building material highly resistant to weathering.
Testing has established that Castle Stone sandstone is of a significant quality with a MPa ranging from 46 to 52. The quarry produces a range of colours from plain white through to heritage brown including both plain and banded rocks. The variations of colours produced by the quarry are illustrated below. Please keep in mind that the pictures are for illustrational purposes only - sandstone is a natural product and therefore subject to variation in colour.
